Basic kayak course – paddlepass green/level 2

In order to rent a kayak or canoe in Norway, you must have paddlepass level 2 (Paddle Association’s Norwegian version of the European Paddle Pass (EPP)). You can obtain this by taking 2 days of basic courses with us. Here you will get a thorough introduction to everything you need to be able to maneuver a sea kayak securely. The theory section takes place inside, but all the practice takes place out on land and in the sea. You will get wet.

Among other things, we will cover the following topics during the course:

  • Lifting, carrying, launching and entering the kayak
  • Sitting position and good paddling technique
  • Efficient and safe forward paddling
  • Backward paddling and stopping
  • Sideways movement of the kayak
  • Low support stroke
  • Control stroke (rear)
  • Turning of the kayak
  • Exiting the kayak
  • Securing kayak after landing
  • Tipping around in the kayak and exiting when in water
  • Rescue techniques
  • Injury prevention
  • Planning a trip
  • General safety while kayaking
  • Basics about outdoor activities
  • How to behave and be considerate when in nature

Kayak, splash cover, paddle and flotation vests are provided during the course. Packing list of what you need to bring can be found here.

The course runs over 16 hours, two days
